Sweet afternoon with friends - best cakes plus shopping Kinkerbuurt

Nadia
Today I had an appointment with Annelie, we both live in the Kinkebuurt a very nice neighbourhood where you can find everything you need in life, especially sweet stuff.... :-)

We take the streetcar number 7 or 17 and jump out at Ten Katestraat, the street we already know for its nice daymarket. We walk southwards to number 228: „Café Opera Prima“. Of course we start here our afternoon.
This cafe has the best macaroons of Amsterdam and they are huge! The other sweets are delicious as well and last but not least the owners are very friendly. The interior could betaken straight out of an opera house! We like this royal touch.

After this tasty experience we can start to go for our goal: Loaded shoppingbags!

More southwards, at the corner of the Jan Pieter Heyestraat we'll enter the HEMA, since 1921 the HEMA does de low price line of the magazine 'Bijenkorf'. HEMA has an own section for design and a yearly competition for young talents with the typical Hema feeling, colorful, funny and a little bit childish. It is absolute one of the sightseeing places of Amsterdam, but rather not today.

The Jan Pieter Heijestraat has developed herself from just the connection between the De Kinkerstraat and De Overtoom into a friendly market street with a variety of authentic shops, small restaurants, new boutiques and cafe's: a street not to be overlooked!

At JP Heijestraat 76/78 we find the shop „In my kitchen“ with the newest inventions which facilitates cooking.

On the other side of the street at number 117 we enter the shop called „Sugar Licious“. Here we find all ingredients that makes any patisserie baker feel like being in heaven. You name it, at "Sugar Licious" you'll find it!

Since we are already here we will pay a visit at 'Kaashandel Het Gooi', since 1934 specialised in fine Dutch cheese. Annelie’s favourite cheese shop.

A gift for the youngest we for sure will find at "Big en Belg" at Nr. 83. Toys and small gifts fill the shop. The collection is very tempting. Or just aside in Nr. 79-81 in the somehow skurielen "Loenatique" where you can find custom made clothing.

A shop with handmade chocolate, Portuguese chicken restaurant 'Piri Piri', a shop specialised in eatable flowers. A Turkish specialties shop...... We will not continue telling you the details, you'll have to discover yourself, with one exception: where to find the scarfs we wear. Just have a look in the webshop :-)
